KAITO is the second Japanese Vocaloid to have been released, having been developed by YAMAHA and distributed by Crypton Future Media along with MEIKO. His voice is provided by the famous Japanese singer, Naoto Fūga. He and MEIKO are often referred to as "Nenchou-gumi" (年長組, The Seniors).

Fans often celebrate his anniversary between February 14th - 17th due to YAMAHA and Crypton printing different release dates.

He is usually portrayed as a kind "older brother" type in various media, though his age and many other details have been left up to interpretation.
